melina ruijter graphic designer/illustrator Amsterdam (NL)

After high school, her love of drawing made it a logical step to study Design at the Graphic Lyceum in Amsterdam and then move on to the HKU University of Arts Utrecht to study Illustration. After graduating, she worked freelance for design studios, made illustrations for various magazines and educational books, took part in exhibitions with her paintings and gave workshops on painting ceramics. From December 2004 till 2008 she owned an art shop in the centre of Amsterdam where she made and sold her painted products (also commissioned). After that she worked as a Visual designer at various marketing agencies. 

Currently she works as a (freelance) designer & illustrator and she is also studying at the Amsterdam University of Arts to become a Visual Arts and Design teacher.

 Melina likes to find inspiration in everyday life and loves to create colorful work by using traditional and/or digital media. For this series she created digital portraits called 'Legends' of which two are shown here at the LINNIV Art Gallery: Notorious B.I.G. and Erykah Badu.
